Jane Turner

What do you miss most about volunteering during this disruption?
Jane – “Interacting with people, staff and other volunteers!”
What inspired you to volunteer?
J- “I had known I wanted to volunteer at RMH since I stayed at an RMH 35 years ago. I wanted to give back but needed to wait for retirement. As soon as I retired, becoming a volunteer was the first thing I did.”
What brings you the most fulfillment from volunteering at RMH?
J – “Knowing that I am a part of providing a safe clean home for the families when they need it. I also love giving tours of the House to groups and sharing the mission with the community.”
You have been a volunteer for several years and have seen what the House is like during the Holidays. What impressed you the most during the Holidays?
J – “The House is beautifully decorated, but what impresses me the most is the overwhelming generosity of the community. All the donated gift items for families to come and do their holiday shopping free of charge is so wonderful.
When I stayed at RMH House years ago, it was nice and a huge help to us, but meals were not provided. There was a kitchen for
families to use, but the amount of donated food was not available to us. I can’t help but wonder if all the Houses have this much support or if this is unique to the Charlotte community.”
You have been and done just about everything in the House that a volunteer can do. What have you not done?
J – “I am not a kitchen crusader because I’m not much of a cook, but I love giving tours of the House to groups and sharing the mission with the community. I also love interacting with people and my dog, Murphy loves being at the House giving providing pet therapy. She really misses being at the House.”
