So, it begins again. Another week in our new reality with COVID-19 or, as we like to think of it, one week closer to the end of this pandemic and brighter days are coming soon! And while there is still much uncertainty in the days ahead, one thing is for sure, we remain absolute in our commitment to the mission of Ronald McDonald House (RMH) and in that, our passion burns brighter than ever.
It’s been interesting, this social distance. After six weeks now, I can truly say while physically I’ve never been so far apart from people, at the same time, I have experienced and witnessed a sweet closeness both personally and professionally with the people in my world. I don’t believe these are bonds we could have created on our own, but they have happened organically as a result of our shared experience and compassion. My staff's resilience and dedication to push through these unprecedented times is inspiring. I thank them for making me fall in love with my work even more every day. I appreciate ALL the ways they are moving us forward.
Recently, in a RMHC Global update, Dr. Audrey Evans was featured as she celebrated her 95th birthday. Dr. Evans is an important figure in our RMHC heritage, and one of the original founders of RMH in Philadelphia in 1974. Her contributions to RMHC are innumerable, and she provides a clear and consistent reminder about the importance of never losing sight of our core values. I am happy to share in her own words, that are so inspiring as we look forward to our future:
“We must never lose hope or give up. I am incredibly grateful for each and every person who is part of our worldwide system who is committed to our families each and every day. I believe in you, and I believe in the power of our kindness, compassion and determination during times of uncertainty, turmoil and loss. We must remain strong because our families need us now and will need us more than ever. Sending good health, appreciation and love to all.” – Dr. Audrey Evans
